Underground Mine Tour
At 3:30 pm on
Wednesday, we will head for the Soudan Mine to tour the High Energy Physics
Experiment located more than a half mile underground. Weather is always nice
down there. A steady 40+ degrees. You will don
hardhats (provided) and ride the cage down. You will be amazed at the
well-appointed labs where detectors are poised to collect neutrinos that will
be fired through the arc of the earth from Fermi Labs near Chicago.
Find out for yourself, whether neutrinos really oscillate and
where is all that cold, dark matter that went missing after the big bang.
Blasters will marvel at the rooms that have been opened. Some of the work done by Lake Superior Chapter members.
This tour is a bargain at $10 and is scheduled so that
participants of any of the Certificate classes can attend and be back for the
reception on Wednesday evening.
